2018 intake (new)

The University of Parma and Tallinn University welcome qualified international students from around the world to apply for our Digital Library Learning (DILL) joint master programme taught in English.  DILL is a two-year master program for information professionals who intend to work in the complex world of digital libraries. The students here appreciate not only the professional and academic environment but also the welcoming, open and friendly atmosphere of our universities. DILL programme at a glance

The first three terms consist of six modules, each amounting to 15 ECTS. 

In the first semester two modules are offered: (1) Research Methods and Theory of Science and (2) Digital Knowledge Organization. 

In the second semester two modules are offered: (1) Information and Knowledge Management and (2) Human Resource Management Modules are offered. 

In the third semester two modules are offered: (1) Access to Digital Libraries and
(2) Usage of Digital Libraries: Quantitative and Qualitative Evaluation. 

In the last term the students write their master’s thesis amounting to 30 ECTS.

The courses can be studied in campus, online or in the blended mode.

Requirements for DILL students

  • A degree in Library and Information Science (based on no less than three years of study – 180 ECTS) or equivalent qualifications such as a degree in another relevant subject.
  • English skills. Students from non-English speaking countries must have passed:

- either IELTS (International English Language Testing System) (minimum score: 5.5 points)  - or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) (minimum score: 550 on the paper based test, 213 on the computer based test, or 80 on the Internet based test).

  • Not all applicants need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS test certificate. If you are in doubt as to whether or not you may be exempted, please contact the DILL Administration for more information.
  • Sufficient knowledge of and experience with computers as a tool for information professionals.


  • Completed application form in English

  • Statement of purpose in English (i.e. motivation, subject of interest, plans for study)
  • Documented qualifications according to the admission criteria

Applications for the 11th intake of the DILL Master will be accepted online starting from July 20 and will remain open until August 30 2018

Cost: € 1250 per semester

The courses will start in October 2018. The online application procedure necessarily requires the following documents:

  1. Italian Tax Number (in italian "Codice Fiscale") : non-resident individuals who need to obtain a tax code can apply for it to the Italian consular authorities in the country of residence. A digital copy of the obtained Tax/Fiscal code document must be uploaded during the online registration procedure
  2. Declaration of Value (in italian "Dichiarazione di valore" : foreign documents and certificates must be issued by the competent authority of the awarding institution and translated into Italian.Documents must then be certified and notarized by the competent Italian Embassy/Consulate of the country where the awarding institution is located; the Italian Embassy/Consulate will issue the Declaration of Value (DV - Dichiarazione di valore in loco). A digital copy of the Declaration of Value should be uploaded during the online application procedure and the original document must be sent by post to the University of Parma in order to complete the registration to the Master programme.
